The Trial

'Let the trials begin!' Proclaimed the jury. The accused were brought As the air charged with fury. Spectators were in abundance For, this trial had no precedence. The accused were no mere mortals A beast, metal and a web portal. Trial began for Whatsapp, Accused for several mishaps. 'You spread lies and hate, As innocents faced unlucky fate'. 'Riding their bikes, far they traveled To escape from the rushes and explore the unraveled. Child stealers! You called them. Scared, the natives went for rods and spades. On a dastardly day when "Guest is God" faded. How do you plead, gulity or not?' 'A simpleton I am, I bring people close. Reuniting people with whom they had lost. Harming anyone is not in my code. Though I do get played by people of fraud. I am nothing but a humble messenger Like water, I adapt into what is being entered. Not guilty I plead, though I repent all that has happened.' Exit WhatsApp, enter the gun. ...

Follow the Anger

This is personal. I thought about it and found the whole process very interesting. Hence, sharing. Please read to find out. Before going into the personal details, let me bring two movie scenes into the context. Munnabhai MBBS (Hindi, 2003) - Munna’s parents travel from their village to where Munna stays. Their arrival at the railway station is eventful as it involves Hari Prasad Sharma, Munna’s father, foiling an attempted pickpocket upon himself. The onlookers quickly jump in and start the bashing the life out of the culprit. Before things go bloody, Hari Prasad intervenes and frees the guy. He asks him to observe the anger built up within the crowd. ‘Someone has come fighting with their spouse. Someone’s son has disobeyed him. Someone is fed up of the rampant corruption while someone else is fuming over the cricket team’s failure. And they are all going to lash out their frustration on you.’ Maheshinte Prathikaram (Malayalam, 2016) - There is a brilliant, well executed...

Gully Boy

The tale of the lads raised in the streets, Whose music was shoved right under the sheets. They came up against the odds, Traversed the less taken roads. Rap, they called their art! They sang loud with their heart. The lines are mostly rough, The questions asked are tough. So we sit there mum, Cause their time has come. Keep calm and tune in to the beats, They are the voice of the streets.

Again

Are you alone?. It was her voice that brought me out of the South African lanes where I was loitering with the young Trevor Noah. I folded my copy of Born A Crime, and looked at her direction as I tried to process the question that came as an intrusion to my uninterrupted train of thoughts. Yes. I felt a fear crawling up from the inner walls of my belly as the pretty girl put her bag on the luggage rack and decided to sit right next to me. If I remember rightly, this exact scene with this exact verbal exchange has panned out in The Unbreakable some moments before the train they were traveling crashed. I checked for a ring on her. I could not find any. I too was unmarried. So the scene was not entirely similar after all. I was relieved. So, where are you headed to? I initiated. Oh, I would get down at the next station. Thiruvananthapuram. Oh. You could have easily boarded a bus right? How am I supposed to find a bus on a Hartal day? Right! This was ...

IFFK 2018

The Twenty-third. My third. The one sans government aid. The one with the hiked delegate fee. Fortunately, our passion was superior to the sense of financial security. Cometh the second week of December. The most memorable days of my Thiruvananthapuram phase. Dec 7 (Friday) : Opening Function - Skipped the function for the first time, as we (the movie crazy lot from work) were exhausted after the team outing. Made plans for an early watch the next day. Dec 8 (Saturday) ********************* 9 AM - Kairali - Manta Ray - we (Sreeram, Deepa, John, Anu, Anoop, Vinnie, Albince, Jijo, Chithira, Sajjad) watched our first movie together. A disappointment. And it was long. Went out right after it ended and had tea. Took coupons for the next movie (Border). Coupons were a new thing. As the case of things new and unknown, I feared it. 12 noon - Tagore - The Debt - canceled Border since Pramitha (who I was meeting for the first time after years of occasional cor...

Equals

Do you believe in equality? I asked Life. Of course, yes! Life said. You are lying! Said I. For, if you truly did, We would not have been so different. Do you care for equality? I asked the World. Without a doubt! Was the reply. You are lying! Said I. For, if you truly did, Our differences would not have been so stark. Do you stand for equality? It was Humanity’s turn. I am all for it. Came the response. You are lying! Said I. For, if you truly did, We would not be killing our own all the time. Do you value equality? God come next. Why not! I love you all. Stop lying! Said I. For, if you truly did, Bone cancer in infants would have just been a myth. I do. Boomed loud and clear. I turned to face the voice. It was Death who had answered without being asked. Do you? I had to make sure. Good or bad; rich or poor; young or old; When your time comes, I reach out.
